Hudud, a punishment to educate

MARANG, March 20 - Hudud is an educational Islamic law, not a cruel punishment. This is asserted by YB Dato’ Nasaruddin Daud  in Maghrib lecture in conjunction of the Third International Ijtima’ for Ummah Solidarity here.

According to him, the hudud law applies only to Muslims and can not be imposed if there is syubhah, vague things. In fact, Islam also gave space to the offender to repent, at least for three days.

Among religious crimes contains in hudud law are the fault of adultery, drinking alcohol and apostasy.

In Kelantan Legistative Assembly recently, a total of 44 state legislative council members have expressed unanimous support for amendment to Kelantan's Syariah Criminal Code 1993 contains hudud law.
